About the Client:

The National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIA) of Uruguay is the entity responsible for developing technologies and knowledge that respond to the demands and needs of the country's producers, industry, and consumers. It was founded in 1989, and it seeks to have a positive impact on the economy, the environment, and society as a whole.


The Challenge

INIA solicited DigitalProjex to conceive and develop a mobile application with the objective of improving planning and decision-making based on crop development and the behavior of climatic variables. This application, compatible with Android and iOS, had to anticipate the essential phenological events in rice cultivation, taking advantage of regional historical climate data to facilitate decision-making for farmers, agronomists, and agricultural professionals dedicated to rice cultivation in the country.

The Solution:

To comply with INIA's requirements, DigitalProjex successfully implemented several key functionalities. First, the system was divided into two, a backend for system administration and general configurations, and a mobile application for user interaction. 

The backend of the developed application highlights user management, crop administration, uploading historical data to a database, and the process of synchronizing data from different INIA automatic stations at regular intervals. Likewise, the persistence of crucial data such as temperature, sunshine, solar radiation, among others, was managed. 

In the mobile application, DigitalProjex implemented search options, the visualization of data with informative tables, and the ability to associate images with crops to make information more accessible. In addition, detailed charts were created on various climatic and phenological aspects, along with an alert capability that notifies users of phenological changes. The function of saving sets of information associated with a specific name was incorporated, giving users the ability to easily access their favorite history.

The result:

CLIMArroz is a comprehensive solution for monitoring climatic variables associated with rice growth in different areas of the country, and for tracking the development of key phenological events in rice cultivation. The solution combines an efficient backend with an intuitive mobile application.

The backend manages users, crops, and historical data, processing continuous information from INIA's automatic stations and ensuring the persistence of key data.

The mobile application allows users to easily enter and view information, access phenological and climatic data in an organized way, receive information about phenological changes, and associate images with crops. In addition, CLIMArroz includes the association of these events with relevant crop management practices, suggesting weed and disease control, cover fertilization, and irrigation management, among others, through "Alerts."
